Betty Hughes
A life that spanned
More than 80 year
She had seen a lot
Let’s make that clear
Us younger folk
Will never know
The tough old times
Uphill in the snow
Many brothers and sisters
From a large family
Hard to fathom for sure
For you and for me
But she went on her own
To old Ontario
Worked hard at the bank
And met a guy we all know
Almost half a century
And 3 kids to boot
Was a real partnership
They had a real hoot
I remember the workshop
The smokes - and the cats
As well as the camp
Down east by the flats
There was also the meals
Cooked and cut by those two
Was hectic for sure
But nobody was blue
There was always a laugh
And some good old folklore
So much going on
Even food on the floor!!!
There was Christmas as well
We all got some stuff
Nobody left empty
Was always enough
She was a good mom
A sis and caretaker
A gram and a cousin
And a hell of a baker
I’ve gone on enough
So will end this short rant
But will always remember
A truly Great Aunt!!!

Nancy and Karen --- so sorry for your loss! You did an amazing job of taking care of your mom - and you with all your efforts you enabled her to live out her desire to stay at home! I commend you!!!
Your mom was ever welcoming and I was always very touched that she would remember me (and let you guys come to the cottage:) I am glad I was able to share some visits with her in the last while! She was always kind, sharing and welcoming.

I am so glad that I got to spend some time a few years ago with my aunt betty.we talked and reminisced about times gone past at my grandparents farm.i will always cherish my childhood and being on my grandparents farm aith all my aunts and uncles.some of the best times if my life were spent there.my love to her family .Aunt Betty will always be in my heart as the lovely and caring lady that she was.the family is now all back together again.Your home now Aunt Betty god bless you.love your nephew Derek Tomlinson
