Obituary of Larry Fitzpatrick
FITZPATRICK, Lawrence "Larry"
Passed away suddenly on his 78th birthday, July 1, 2020, at his home in Hamilton, ON. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Gertrude, sister Muriel Madigan, brother-in-law Mike, nephews Paul and Michael, and cousins Rosella (Don), Pat (Edna), Joe (Patricia), Frank (Janette), Eldred (Ruby), Gerry (Marion), Velma (Colin) and Leonard (Jean). Fondly remembered by big brother Eugene (Christine), nephew Kevin (Amber), nieces Lynn (Phillip), Colleen (Joe) and Lizanne, and cousins Bill (Sally), Teresa, Jim (Julie), Marie (Cecil), Leo, Doris (Rob), their families, and his constant feline companion, Kendle. Sadly, Larry’s COPD prevented him from attending many family gatherings in recent years. He was missed. As a young man, Larry’s burgeoning independence and sense of adventure led him to explore a new life in California. Back home, his family eagerly awaited - and treasured - the handwritten letters and phone calls that kept him connected. Following a welcomed return to Canada, he was proud to become a lifelong social member of the Veteran’s Service League (Main St. E. at Cameron). Here, he dazzled all with his exceptional snooker skills and cards prowess. Always quick to provide moral and financial support to club members experiencing difficult times, Larry also often delivered refreshments to those in assisted-living quarters. To the ladies and gents at the VSL, he extended the same care, advice and unwavering support that he, too, received as a new member. These friends became a cherished extension of Larry’s family. An avid reader, who loved both Hemingway and Wilbur Smith, Larry also enjoyed the camaraderie of a good football pool, bicycling to Gage Park for outdoor chess, and Sunday mass at St. Eugene’s, where he spoke highly of “Father Charlie.” Larry will be remembered as a dear brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Cremation has taken place. Private interment. If desired, donations in remembrance to the SPCA would be appreciated. Condolences can be shared at www.donaldvbrown.ca.
