I met Jan in 1973 when I began teaching at Ernestown SS in Odessa just outside of Kingston. We coached volleyball together on Thursdays after school, and then she regularly came to our apartment for a meal cooked for us by Dave. We became good friends. I enjoyed Jan's humour, enthusiasm for teaching, and her care for kids. She was one of the main organizers of an exchange with a school in Susquehana - a very memorable trip. I know how much Jan loved to travel and I enjoyed hearing about her trips.
