Rebecca, Tim, Rosemary, Darrell and families:
I am so sorry for your loss. I can still hear your mom’s laugh and will always remember her kindness.
My oldest memory is whatever year The Wizard of Oz came out in COLOUR!!! Naturally, the Salter’s had the first colour tv on the street and the entire street was invited to come to their house and watch!!! There were a lot of us, if I remember correctly, jammed into the family room to watch. Everyone was ohhhing and awwing through the whole show. I don’t think it was much longer after that day, that the Coombs household had their new tv delivered too!
Rosemary was my much older (4 years?) friend who had me terrified on what to expect my first day of high school. Don’t wear this, never do that and whatever you do don’t say this I’m surprised I even made it in the door. Mrs. Salter was trying to smooth things over by telling me it wasn’t really ALL THAT BAD. I didn’t know who to believe!
The house was always impeccable and Mrs. Salter was always MORE dressed than the rest of the neighbourhood’s moms.
At least now she’ll be reunited with Mr. Salter(ever the gentleman). They were such a cute couple.
Hope to see you in April.
Sincerely,
Nanci (Coombs) Despond

Rebecca, Tim, Rosemary, Darrell and Families:
I am very sorry for your loss. I was speaking to your mom at my mom's funeral in 2018 and I was amazed at how chipper she was. Apart from the occasion, it was great to talk to her and briefly catch up. I told her at the time that The Salters were the best next-door-neighbours anyone could ever hope for: old-school nice; the neatest property on the street; and quiet! It doesn't get any better. But it did..
They got the first pool on the block and every screaming little kid in the neighbourhood invaded the quietest yard on the street.
And we were welcome! That's patience. I spent many hours around that pool with Darrell while Mrs. Salter kept an eye on us and listened to "her boys" (the Expos) on the radio. All of my fraudulent knowledge of early Canadian baseball was cribbed from poolside conversations with her. I can talk about Rusty Staub like I knew the guy.... I got that from Mrs. Salter. I once got points from a new girlfriend's mom because I knew what decoupage was. Mrs. Salter, again.
The Salters kept us supplied with maple syrup in the Spring (from some relation, I think) and were always there if you needed a cup of something immediately. My mom measured all living rooms by how they measured up to Marg's and all garages by how they looked next to Preston's. I've never had neighbours like that since and I know that I never will. They were an important part of Valley Drive culture and will live on in a lot of hearts as such.

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. Margaret was a truly special person. She was kind and supportive throughout our years of working together at Falcon Fabricators and KEW Steel. We have only fond memories of her and know that she will be missed by both family and friends. We will not be able to be with you on Sunday but you will be in our thoughts and our prayers are with you all.
