I had no idea that Marie had passed until the Canadian Club Chair, Tim SImmons, told me just before a podcast we recorded on immigration. I was shocked. Marie; thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you. I will remember you in my heart and aspire to be more like you in your gentle giving way. XO

When I met with Marie for the first time at a restaurant along with Doug, I knew right away that I was talking to a lady who was both very kind, gentle and genuinely interested in people she came across. Often Marie visited Doug's office at Robbinex and lighten up the place with her enthusiasm and joie de vivre.
While I am deeply saddened at her passing, I pray that her soul rest in peace and Doug and her family find solace with fond memories of her times with them. Marie it was a pleasure meeting you.
Amen

My deepest sympathy to Doug and Mark and Rose and all of Marie's family and friends. I was fortunate to have worked for Marie at the flower shop and thought she was the b est person I have ever worked for. She was kind, gentle and caring. Another angel got her wings. She is at peace and will be watching over her loved ones.
May God speed healing to your broken hearts.

Marie was a beautiful, warm and thoughtful woman. She was the true personification of the Rotary motto, "Service above Self". Not only did she serve her community, but Marie always took the time to appreciate and honour people and her relationships with them. My heart warms whenever I think of Marie. She had that effect on people. I remember her taking the time to visit my father when he was sick. And mailing me news articles and photos of him as recently as last year. Marie truly cared and was interested in people. It was natural for her. Every time I saw Marie, it made me smile. She was so genuine and kind and when she was with you she was truly present. She gave for the right reasons and was so modest about all of her accomplishments. She was a gift to the world. She will be missed.

Dear Doug,
The news of Marie’s passing immediately saddened everyone of us at the Office of International Affairs, McMaster University. Of all the instructors who teach international students English through our program Marie stands out to be the most loved one by all colleagues in our office.
It is not because of Marie’s dedicated and excellent teaching for our students but her low key, very caring personality that make her so special to us. She was always ready to accept different tasks and make adjustment to best accommodate the needs of her students. She never demanded work from our assistant team but made all preparations such as material copying by herself. She “quietly” left beautiful flowers for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas holidays on our office desk throughout the years since she first joint our teaching team.
I was expecting Marie’s visit before the passing Christmas and now I am sure she will come to our hearts at all special occasions from now on.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. When our sons became friends in high school, Marie reached out to me and we would have lunch together and talk about how the boys were doing. I was always filled with admiration for Marie's devotion to volunteerism and the Rotary Club. She was such an active and involved person and was far too young to leave this earth. We regret that we are unable to attend today. We send our deepest condolences for your loss. Arlie and Bob Singer

Dear Doug, Mark, Rose, Smitty and family,
We were just devastated to learn of Marie's passing. Our hearts go out to you. We saw her just before Christmas at our volunteer party where she excitedly told me how much she was looking forward to spending her holiday with family. How fortunate that everyone could be together an the end. She was a remarkably caring and giving person who helped so many causes - the mind boggles.. For us - she jumped on board and became an advocate and literacy champion for Telling Tales from the moment that she heard about the idea. Crazy bold ideas don't get far without people like Marie who step right up and say those magic words- "how can I help?". It was also thanks to Marie's connections that we were awarded a generous Trillium grant that became a game-changer for our fledgling project. She was a key member of our volunteer recruitment team every year and so much more. But that's just one little thing that Marie did. Marie gave to her community with her whole heart. I first got to know her when I joined BEO where she gave me her trademark warm and enthusiastic welcome. The picture attached is her along side Paul Takala, CEO of Hamilton Public Library and Paul Berton, Editor in Chief at the Spectator - welcoming our guests to the 11th annual festival with the same warm and gracious smile. Over the last decade, I had the honour of serving alongside of her as a Rotarian and was constantly inspired by her commitment to living by the Rotary Motto "Service Above Self".
She was just such a beautiful person who, of course, cherished her dear family above all. She will always be in our hearts. Deepest sympathies from myself and the whole Telling Tales Team.

I was the case manager , CCAC, for Marie's parents and as such, had lots of dealings with Marie until her mother was placed in LTCH. Marie was always lovely to deal with and so supportive of her parents. The visits were often difficult and Marie sometimes ended up in tears but always rallied to continue to support them as best she could. They could not have asked for a better daughter even though she was always such a busy lady herself. She a sweet woman and well appreciated by all who knew her.

We are truly saddened by Marie's passing. She was a wonderful woman and friend and we only have good memories of our friendship with her. She was always warm and welcoming and we always enjoyed the time we spent with her and Doug. The last time we saw Marie was when the four of us got together in early Nov. Marie was a lively and wonderful hostess for the evening, so we were shocked when Doug told us a couple days later that she was back in Jarvinski Hospital. She remained courageous and up through out her long battle. We will miss her.

‘Little by little we let go of loss..but we never let go of love”
Over fifty years ago I had the privilege of sitting beside Marie as we both played our flutes in the Saltfleet High School Band. We each went off to different post secondary education and began our adult life journeys. Her quiet beauty and grace radiated from her even then.
I saw her obituary in The Spec this morning and reflected on Marie and life and purpose and love. It was an honour to have known this beautiful soul.
