Bob Coulter was Principal at Tapleytown for me from Kindergarten to grade 5. He was a very kind soul who I always saw with a smile on his face. His was a presence that was very difficult to replace when he was taken away from our school .
I remember when I broke my nose in Gym class he was very kind to me and since he knew my Mother well from the Home and School I think he took a little extra delight in the way he informed my Mother about what had happened.. He calmly called my Mother at work and told her " I really hate to alarm you but Ted was hit in the face with a baseball today. " No mention as to the severity so my Mother was in complete panic mode picturing me without teeth etc. only to discover my nose was broken and I was laughing away in the nurses room with my teacher !
I am very sorry to hear of his passing and I do hope the family finds comfort in knowing that there were a heck of a lot of students who just loved that man !

Mr. Coulter was my Principal and Grade 6 teacher at Tapleytown School. I remember vividly sitting across from his desk in the office on more than one occasion. His kind and encouraging words made a huge impact on me, and I regret that I never thanked him while I had the chance. With his passing, another lesson learned.
My deepest condolences to his family.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Mr. Coulter, my first school principal. After arriving from Ireland, I attended Tapleytown in the late fifties to mid-sixties, and what a great guy he was to me and for me. While I am saddened by his passing, I am also grateful to have had the pleasure of knowing him, his smile and warmth are the things I always remember. Such a nice man for a young child to learn from and grow with...we met again when I was a bit older and he made my day when he laughed and said please, call me Bob...RIP Mr. Coulter, and thank you, Bob.

Mr. Coulter was our Principal at Tapleytown from Kindergarten to Grade 7. We were all devastated when he left the school. The entire school loved him. He was a great teacher and role model, and I remember him always smiling. When my daughter went to Kindergarten, her teacher was Mrs. Coulter (who she also loved). When Mrs. Coulter would forget her glasses at home, Mr. Coulter would bring them to the school, and of course, bring treats for all the kids. He touched everyone he met.
We hope our great memories of him will bring comfort to Mrs. Coulter and family. Thinking of you all at this very sad time.

So many of us from the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board remember Bob Coulter as a friend and mentor. I had the privilege of being on his staff at three schools and later in my career he became my superintendent. He was a great encourager at all times. I will never forget his support and his friendship. He will be forever remembered as a great educational leader. Judy and I send our condolences to Helen and the entire Coulter family. Our prayers are with you during this time of loss.

I had the opportunity of working with Bob on the Hamilton 5 Pin Bowling Association Board of Directors and Hall of Fame committee for several years. Bob was an absolute ambassador of 5 Pin bowling and was a huge supporter of our sport. He will be missed by many not only in his local community but in his extended 5 pin bowling family as well.
Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the entire Coulter family during this difficult time. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Not only was Bob a great coach, he was also my principal at Mt. Hope school...I will always remember the day he walked up to me on a Monday morning and congradulated me on bowling well in a tournament the day before, I had NO clue how he knew how well I bowled...that is when I found out he wrote the 5 pin bowling column for the Hamilton Spectator, from that day on I looked up to this man....he will be greatly missed.
