Obituary of Walter (Wally) Herbert Garside

GARSIDE, Walter Herbert (Wally) Peacefully with devoted family at his side, Wally passed on into the arms of his heavenly Father on Monday, June 4, 2009 in his 85th year. Gone to join Kathy, his soul mate and cherished wife of 62 years. Loving father of Iris Nott (Bob Morris), Ken (Ruth), Bob (Angie), Rick (Wendy). Proud grandfather of Steve (Debbie) Nott, Jason (Fran) Nott, Jennifer (Adam) Cummings, Paul (Jen Minnett), Lauretta, Cole and Meghan. Great-grandfather of James, Andrew, Michael, Justin, Grace and Matthew. Predeceased by his brother Charles (Betty) Garside. Brother-in-law of Patricia Fleming, Sheila (late Leonard) Penney, Clarissa (Maurice) Mumford and Thomas (Kay) Fleming. Predeceased by in-laws Jim and Mary Fleming, Walter and Madonna Fleming, Annie and Bill O’Brien. Uncle Wally will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews. Wally was an Air Force veteran, serving as an upper middle gunner during WWII. An avid golfer, Wally also loved dancing and playing cards. He travelled extensively and spent many winters vacationing at Sanlan Ranch in Florida. He was a long time employee of the Wentworth County Board of Education, having retired in 1987. He spent the last two years as a resident at St. Joseph’s Villa where he will be missed by staff and residents alike. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Flett and the caring staff, especially to Susan and Allan for their support and comfort during Wally’s last days. Visitors will be received at the DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Avenue Dr., Stoney Creek on Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. with prayer vigil at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 304 Hwy. #8 Stoney Creek, at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
