Obituary of Mike Small Sr.

SMALL, Michael Sr.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and friend.  Mike passed away peacefully at home on July 3rd, 2019 in his 66th year, after a courageous battle with cancer that he fought right until the very end.  Cherished father and best friend of Mike, his wife Karen and their children Brody, Luke, Taya and Lily.  He will be remembered by his daughter Miranda and her son Logan.

Mike was an active member of the Omeemee Legion, including being on the executive for 5 years and performing countless maintenance and building upgrades. He received the Legionnaire of the Year for 2018. Mike's "booyeehaw" may now be silent but the echo will remain. Mike was an original member of the Stuart Plate fishing club where he won the Stuart Plate Angler of the Year in 2018 thanks to his dedication to picking the right lures and finding the right spot. Mike will forever be an STF member and his tales and love for all of us will never be forgotten!!!! "We're not gonna take it" will be heard with his voice for the rest of time!

Anyone who met Mike was welcomed with open arms and became an instant friend.  His love and passion for fishing was prominent in his life.  He retired as a long time employee with Canada Post. Special thanks to the PSWs and the Palliative Care team for their care and compassion. Also, a special thanks to John and Dawna, Linda Frost, Linda Lawson, Hilda Vair and Jim Southgate for their dedication and assistance to Mike Jr. during the final weeks of Mike's life.

At Mike’s request cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on  Saturday, July 13th at Mike's house (42 King St W, corner of Hwy 7 and Lane St, Omeemee) from 2 p.m. onwards, bring your guitars and your lawn chairs. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca. In lieu of flowers take your kids/grandkids fishing or sponsor a youth tournament in his honour.

Cast a line and drink a cold one for an amazing man!
