Obituary of Lorne Andrew Mitchell

MITCHELL, Lorne Andrew

Lorne, of Binbrook, passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, May 2, 2019 after losing a battle to cancer. Lorne passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on the same farm property he was born on; a wish that he had always carried. He leaves behind his wife Lois. He was the cherished father of Myra (Rick) James, David (Andrea) Mitchell, and father-in-law of Ruth Mitchell. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Amber (Zahir), Becky (Jeff) and Nicole (Kris), six great-grandchildren and many close family and friends. Predeceased by his late wife Grace Mitchell and brother Ross (Joyce) Mitchell. Born and raised on a dairy farm in Binbrook, Ontario, Lorne was engaged throughout the local community. He was an active member of the Binbrook United Church, life member of the Hamilton Gun Club, volunteered with the Binbrook Agricultural Society and was a 4H Club leader. His community impact will continue to be felt for years to come. Lorne was an avid and master woodworker who was known throughout the community for his stunning bowls, rocking horses, candle holders, cheese boards and rocking chairs. As a dairy farmer, Lorne built a purebred Holstein herd, invested in the first computerized grain feeding system in Ontario and passed his farm onto his son and family. Lorne’s family would like to thank Bayshore Homecare Solutions, especially Maria (PSW) and Marian (RN) for their exceptional care. In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Juriansz for his constant care that exceeded expectations every step of the way. Cremation has taken place. A private burial with immediate family was the wish of Lorne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Glanbrook Community Services (Glanbrook Home Support) or to the Binbrook United Church.
