Obituary of Lois May Tournay

TOURNAY, Lois May (nee Tyrer)

Peacefully on the morning of Thursday, January 17, 2019, in her 85th year, Lois left us to head Heavenward. Lois May Tyrer was born in Hamilton, the second daughter of Walter and Elsie (Case) Tyrer, on Remembrance Day, 1934, (a birthday no one could forget). Her career comprised 41 years with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. She married David Tournay in September 1958 and raised two sons while continuing to work fulltime (in the days before more generous maternity leaves). Lois and family, people of faith, attended Westside Baptist, Philpott Memorial, Compass Point and Knox Presbyterian Churches through the years. Dave and Lois were blessed to be married 60 years and celebrated that milestone last fall with an Alaskan cruise. Lois had passions beyond family and faith. Since childhood she was a baseball fan, her allegiance in recent years to the Toronto Blue Jays…or to whichever team was playing the Yankees or Red Sox on a given date. She was also a devotee of figure skating, and recently curling. Her hobby was knitting. Lots and lots of knitting. She will long be remembered as The Knitting Machine! She was also, although she would not have made note of it, a superb cook. Lois is survived and much missed by her husband David, sons Steve and Bruce, daughter-in-law Kelly and grandchildren Keegan and Colleen, sister-in-law Joyce Costley, and ten nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Elsie and sister Ruth Miller. Ruth and family lived in Thunder Bay and Lois delighted in “going up to see Ruth”...we rejoice that she has done that once again!. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 80 Mill St. N., Waterdown, on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to Compassion Canada would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and notes of sympathy may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
