Obituary of Marion Jean Detar
DETAR, Marion Jean (nee Gosling)
With gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of Marion Detar on November 11, 2018, at St. Joseph’s in Hamilton. Born in Ancaster, Marion spent her whole life in the Stoney Creek and Hamilton area. She passed after a short illness, surrounded by her children Susan, Michael and Ann, son-in-law Steve Smith, and her grandchildren and their partners Robyn and Bennett, Caitlin, Jake, Ben and Mandi, and Josh. She was predeceased by her first husband Robert Detar, and her second husband Bill Rielly. Marion was deeply loved by her step-children Bill and Judy Rielly, Brian and Danielle Rielly, Barbara and Randy Montour, Tom and Kathy (deceased) Rielly, Janice and Jim (deceased) Ramsden, Donny and Nancy Rielly and the family’s 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She will be missed by a wide circle of friends, particularly life-long friends Julia Bell and Donna Ferguson. Marion was an avid St. Joe’s volunteer and quilter, sewing over 1000 “cuddle quilts” for the hospital. As she did with all her life’s challenges, she met the end of her life with grace and a sense of humour. We are grateful to the staff of SJHH for their support and care and to all who have supported us in this time, especially the wonderful staff at Seasons Stoney Creek. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Marion’s name to the Canadian Hearing Society. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
