Obituary of Stephen Holley Harcourt Richards

RICHARDS, Stephen Holley Harcourt

April 6, 1940 – November 2, 2018

Stephen passed away peacefully at 8:15 a.m. at home with his wife Diane holding his hand and his dog Danny laying beside him.  Steve wants to thank the palliative unit of the LHIN (CCAC) for the wonderful care he received, Susanna (VON), Mary June (St. Elizabeth’s).  Thank you Kathy, Cal and our other PSW’s for your great care. Steve also wants to thank the LHIN and associates for helping to get him home and honouring his last wishes.  You all showed great compassion.  Stephen was a proud Ford Oakville employee with 37 ½ years of service, retiring in 2001.  He was an avid sports man.  He played on the junior football team for Saltfleet Highschool and was on the team when it won the 1956 SOSSA Championship.  As a park employee he helped the Stoney Creek Ramrods start up the junior hockey club and spent much time coaching and raising funds for the arena.  Steve also played for Stoney Creek Men’s Club baseball league.  He was a life-long avid Detroit Red Wings and Tigers fan.  In later years he also enjoyed the Toronto Blue Jays.  He golfed with his friends at Glendale and then joined Southbrook.  He always said “Golf” was a hateful game.  A special thank you to his Doctors for always being there.  Dr. Julian Lapinsky, Dr. Victoria Pinto, Dr. Craig Ainsworth, Dr. Doug Holder, Dr. Arthur Lau, Dr. Anne Beattie, Dr.’s Eikelboom and Schulman and the amazing Thrombosis Dept. at the General.  You kept him safe for over 40 years.  Also, thank you Dr. Turpie and Dr. Gunstenson and Dr. Bruno Salena.  Thank you to Peter Evans for helping him cope.  A special thank you to Dr. Michael Achong who helped Steve understand what was happening.  Please join us for a Celebration of Steve’s Life at the Stoney Creek Legion (East Room) on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1 p.m.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favourite charity.

I already miss you Steve.  I miss your humour and quick wit.  I miss your knowledge. I miss your reassurance and your unconditional love.  I am so grateful that we had 40 wonderful years together.  I am so lucky I was forever loved by you.  See you soon – Love Diane
