Thinking of all of Marguerite's family today especially Eleanor. Marguerite has been a part of our family for many years. We are so thankful of her companionship to our Dad, Norman Elliott. We are also thankful of his journey with Eleanor & Sherman and all the rest of the relatives 'down east' and here. All their square dance trips, and travelling together was such a happy time for Dad, even though he didn't like to go more then "10 days". I think Marguerite got him on one trip of 14 days. He was always happiest at home, on the farm. He loved to take Marguerite on the 4-wheeler around the fields down the back lane. It took her a long time to 'learn' that the cows were always first to be looked after, but she, I believe liked being out to the farm.
remembering lots of birthday dinners and Thanksgivings @ Gateshead and then later birthdays, Christmas dinners, Sunday meals & Father's Days, at the farm. Always lots of chocolate "bunnies" at Easter. Marguerite loved her chocolate 'fix' and always wanted to have dessert, first when we had a meal together.
God's blessings of hope, comfort and peace, to all.
The Elliott Family

Aunt Mikey featured prominently in many of my childhood summers. She and Norman were always so joyful together and the laughter that rang through the house in Digby during their visits is a bright spot among many lovely memories of my grandparents’ house. Her sister, my grandmother, never missed an opportunity to celebrate. When Mikey would visit, Grammy started the tradition of throwing a Happy Everything Party in her honour. Mikey said that as a twin, she never got a party that was all her own. Grammy was only too happy to oblige. We’d have as many people as would fit in the house, a huge feast, and fun and games in the yard out back. I’ll forever cherish the image of Mikey, Norman, Grammy, and Grampy at one such party, together on the chair swing, laughter ringing across the yard. The Happy Everything Party continues on as a tradition in our family to this day.

Marguerite, Aunt Mikey to us, figured large in our lives, even though for most of those lives she was far away. Lots of summer visits, lots of phone calls — back in the day, even letters, always Christmas and birthday presents — for several years predictable as baby doll pyjamas and paint-by-numbers picture kits, all the more fun because they made Mum, Mikey’s twin, roll her eyes.
The world was livelier when Mikey was around, more so when Norman entered her life. I will never forget when they came East to join Mum and Dad and a thousand or so other people for Dance by the Shore in ’94. I had never seen so many crinolines and western shirts on the streets of Halifax. Mikey was determined that RG and I would one day don the square dance uniform and dance with them. One of us, at least, regrets a little bit that that never happened — well, the dancing, maybe not the crinoline. Wherever Mikey is now is a livelier place too, and we hope there are lots of ‘yellow rocks’.
Carmen, it’s always too soon to lose your mum. Our thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

It is always difficult to say goodbye, but even more difficult to say goodbye to an identical twin. In over 92 years together, Mikey and I have joked about many things. In the last few years however, the joke has been about which one was going first. As I’m ten minutes older, we decided that it should be me. It hasn’t worked that way though.
We were alike in many ways, but unlike in many others. Mother thought we were bookends; everything we did, we were supposed to do as a pair. We were so identical that we were often able to fool guests at Mother’s hotel into thinking there was only one of us.
Sometimes we widened our circle of two. Mikey and our older brother, Gordon, were thick as thieves. He gave her her nickname and meanwhile, I was known as “Goody Two Shoes”. They were the devils and I stayed out of trouble.
Doing everything as a pair changed when we went in nurses’ training. We made different friends, worked in different shifts, but remained close nonetheless. She would often say that she was the brains and I was the body.
When she moved to Hamilton, we talked on the phone two or three times a week, even back when long distance was expensive. I even talked to her the day before she died. She told me that she’d been listening to opera all night, “Roamin’ in the Gloamin’”
Twins have a sixth sense — distance doesn’t matter. When one has difficulties, or is ill, the other always knows.
My heart will be there in Stoney Creek the day of her funeral, but I’m in no shape to travel. She knows that though, since she always knew everything.
Carmen, no one will ever be as good to you as your mother was. I hope you remember her as fondly as I do.

Milestones with Aunt Mickey
I have many great memories of time spent with Aunt Mickey and two of them involved milestones in life.
She took me shopping for my wedding dress. I still remember having a great time trying on dresses at a bridal shop in Jackson Square. Considering I was shopping with the queen of expensive clothing, it didn’t even end up costing the earth!
Aunt Mickey was the first family visitor to meet both my daughters shortly after they were born. She drove from Hamilton to London to see us, and her public health nurse expertise was greatly appreciated, especially the first time around!
In later years I remember fun times learning to play euchre with Mickey and Norman and lots of outings to scenic spots. All outings included ice cream at some point. After all, one had to support the dairy farmers!
So thanks, Aunt Mickey, for the memories and for being my “Mom away from home,” who even looked like my real Mom!
Love,
Nancy Lea (Rice) Tucker
