Obituary of Anne O'Neill
O’NEILL, Anne Elizabeth
January 7, 1922 – June 20, 2018
It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Anne (nee Nelligan) at Ridgeview Manor Retirement Home in Stoney Creek on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. She was 96. She is predeceased (2014) by her husband and best friend of seventy years, Michael O’Neill. He was the love of her life since the day they first met, and now they are back together forever. Anne was the proud mother of Michael Jr. (Susan), Mary Anne Ewer (Mark), Kevin, and John (Deb). She was a special grandmother of Paul and Michael Ewer, Michael David O’Neill, Katelyn, Laura, and Christine O’Neill, and great-grandmother of Cali Ewer. She was always thrilled to have them around, and enjoyed their antics immensely. Anne took great delight in her family; the focus of all her attention. She worked tirelessly to make their lives as happy and full as possible. Anne is survived by her sister Isabel O’Gorman (Robert) of Peterborough. She is predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. As the wife, partner, and best friend of Michael, she was supportive and loving in every way possible. As the mother of four children, she was at once nurturing, guiding, loving, and comforting. Anne was a resident of Stoney Creek from 1951 till 2014. It was there that she raised her family. She was also a devoted member of Saint Francis Xavier Parish. She was a founding and full-time member of the church choir there, and sang in it for most of those sixty three years. During their retirement, Anne and Michael had thirty five years of health and happiness together during which time they were able to travel extensively. Their happiest times were spent at Killbear Park in Parry Sound, where they enjoyed many summers camping with family and friends, in their favoured environment of natural beauty. They sailed, swam, hiked, and otherwise got the most fun and enjoyment they could out of the serenity of this idyllic setting. Anne lived a life full of love and support. She had many friends. As she would often herself say, she had no regrets. We, her family would like to recognize the wonderful care she received from the staff at Ridgeview Manor. Their empathy and compassion were so much appreciated by Anne and her family. Visitation will be held at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Vigil prayers 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 304 Highway #8, in Stoney Creek. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be directed to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
