Obituary of Marcel J. Voz

VOZ, Marcel J.

May 1^st 1924 – February 13, 2018

Marcel passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2018.  He was the most easy going, fair-minded and considerate person one could ever be fortunate enough to meet.  He always tried to do the right thing.  Marcel was born and raised in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan with his six siblings Genevieve, Art, and the predeceased Florence (Sister Bernadette), Marie, Francis and Larry.  In 1950 he met Margaret Moulder.  On their first date, they both knew that they were right for each other.  Through 66 years of marriage it has been “Team M and M” every step of the way.  Dear father, grandpa, great-grandpa and great-great-grandpa of Leo, Jo-anne, Frank and their families living across Canada.  He will be especially missed by Lynn, Bob, Matt, Phil, and Andy in Alberta and by Shelley, Lloyde, Ellie and Lily in Nova Scotia.  It meant a lot to Marcel when members of the Voz and Moulder families kept in touch.  Brightening his life especially were Lynda Phillips, Lianne and Charlie Robertson, Richard and Rollie Voz, Barbara Whitwell and her family David, Graham and Wendy, Bugs and Barb, Kathy Voz and Cynthia Moulder. 

Marcel worked very hard most of his life.  It began on the family dairy and grain farm.  In his teens, he worked underground in the mines.  He retired from Stelco 12-10 mill as a roller after 34 years.  He was also a salesman, driving instructor, home renovator and medical building superintendant.   He was a willing jack-of-all-trades and chauffer for many.  He was never too busy to help his three widowed mother-in-law Josie and her husbands’.  Marcel was a plus 50 unit blood donor and a member of the Stelco male choir.  Leisure activities were an important part of M&Ms life.  By motorcycle, auto and tour bus, they travelled coast to coast in Canada, USA and Mexico.  Caribbean getaways, cruises, skiing in Europe, Broadway shows and Blue Jay games kept them on the go.  A high light for Marcel was seeing a space shuttle soar into the blue sky.        

Twenty years ago, Marcel’s life gradually began to change due to the physical and cognitive challenges of Parkinson’s.  His once active lifestyle eventually became one where the high light of the day was morning coffee with his sweetie.  It never changed who he was as a “go with the flow” person.  He never once complained.  Marcel was always impressed with the genuine goodness in people.  They were always eager to help and to go that extra mile.  We want to thank our supportive family and friends, Dr. Jennifer Jones and Paula, Dr. Keene and Shelly, Dr. Adrian Upton, CCAC, LHIN Robin and the dedicated PSWs especially Bill, Lily and Vicki, Heather and the V.O.N., St. Joseph’s Home care and Saint Elizabeth.  It really does take a village to care for the elderly.  In accordance with Marcel’s long standing wishes, creation has taken place followed by interment at Fifty Cemetery.  A celebration of Life will be held at a future date.  We can best honour Marcel by following his lead.  Say a kind word, help someone in need, enjoy life to the fullest and smile, smile, smile.
