HANC, Joseph

After a lengthy illness, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by love on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in his 84th year. Beloved and devoted husband of Olga for almost 57 years. Cherished father of Irene and Jeff Weir, Rose and Cris Done-Burcea. Much loved grandfather (“Oča”) of Chelsea (Cam), Jeffery, Lucas and Tianna. Dear brother of Rudy (deceased) and Mary Hanc and family, Agnes and Mate Sutlic, Sabina and Mirko Jokic and family in Canada, as well as Olga, Matija, Steve and their families in Slovenia. Predeceased by his parents Rudolph and Ana. Will be missed by cousins Ivan and Ana Kirec and family, Mirko Zorko and Amalia. Joseph retired from Dofasco with 30 years of service. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family. He had great pride and passion in making wine, his butchering skills and gardening, so that he was able to share the abundance of his work and harvest with others. He was a real artisan. Joseph loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends at the cottage, where everyone was always welcome. Thank you to Fr. Drago Gacnik for his home and hospital visits, neighbours Angelo and Anna and family for their constant care and concern, his PSW’s, and doctors and nurses at the Hamilton General Hospital. Special thanks to Agnes and Mate for all of their much appreciated help, and also to all of the friends and family who took time to regularly call and visit. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Vigil prayers at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Gregory The Great Slovenian Church on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Gregory The Great Slovenian Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
