Mr Njegovan was my high school art teacher for all 4 years a true inspiration with big heart. Here is a painting I did last year, after drifting away from it post high school.
God bless

Today, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Nick Njegovan. I came to know and respect Nick when he taught at Beamsville District Secondary School many years ago. He was such a warm-hearted, talented individual, an expert draughtsman and photographer who shared his knowledge and offered his advice generously to those whom he saw potential in. He reminded me how important it was to slow down, take your time and reflect on each stroke of the brush, and above all, the value in observing the nature of your subject. My sincere condolences to Djuka and family. I am certain God will look upon him favourably into the next life, where greater works are promised.

So very sorry to hear of Nick's passing. I had the pleasure to work with Mr.N at GSS for a number of years. He was always there to help out with any Art History questions & long before the internet he was a marvelous source of material. He supported the integration of Arts into the history classroom and provided much inspiration. Reading the tributes of his former students shows what an amazing legacy he had. My deepest sympathy to the Njegovan family.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Mr. Njegovan's passing. He was one of the most influential teachers in my life. He gave me the gifts of teaching me darkroom photography and watercolour painting. He was always kind, humourous, compassionate and caring. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends, and especially to Mrs. Njegovan, who I remember very fondly from many childhood trips to the emergency room and who always brightened those days with her presence. I wish you peace and comfort in this difficult time.

I am very sad to hear that Mr. Njegovan passed away. I went to GSS from 1991-96 and he was one of my favourite teachers ever. He was very caring and funny, I fondly remember him singing in many classes and joking about singing opera when he retired. In my senior year I had him for two classes, so I would start and end the day with him. It was the best semester.
I have worked at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery since my co-op in high school so I was very privileged to get to see him on a somewhat regular basis when he would drop by to view our exhibitions, usually with his good friend Bob Macaulay. He would always greet me with a warm smile and hug. His most recent visit was in April of this year and I was so happy to see him, as he hadn’t been around for a while. I will cherish that visit and hug, along the many others over the years. Please accept my deepest condolences and know that he was loved by so many of his students. I will never forget him.

Thank you for being such an interesting art teacher. You gave students the chance to explore their creativity. My friend Peter and I were sometimes very silly in your class but you were always quick to call us out on it and ensure the work got done. You also were kind enough to sketch me at 17 which is a drawing I still have framed on my wall. I am so sad today.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Njegovan. He was my favourite teacher in high school and, as a very shy kid, he gave me the confidence to pursue my love of art. His support lead me to very successful years at Sheridan college before becoming a freelance Illustrator. I always hoped I'd bump into him at some point to tell him how much he impacted me. My sympathies to his family, he will be missed.

My deepest condolences to all of the Njegovan family. I attended GSS from 93-97 and was in many of Mr Njegovan's classes. He was an amazing man who really saw the passion of his students and always tried his best to support them as much as he could. His constant encouragement and kindness played a massive role with my career. He opened so many doors I never knew were possible and I owe my career to the skills he passed along to me. He will be missed by many of his former students.

My heartfelt condolences to Nick's family. He was my art teacher at BDSS, and a teacher of fine character. He inspired me, as he did so many other students. Beyond that, he always greeted us as being important and as having a purpose for being in his class. Some teachers leave an impact on their students that gets passed down; Nick was one of those teachers.
"Thank you Nick. You made a difference to others."
My sympathies to those he left behind.

Njegovan Family
I am very sad to hear about the passing of Mr Njegovan, and send my sympathies to you all. Mr Njegovan was my highschool art teacher in 1988-1990 at GSS and significantly impacted my career and life for the better. When he arrived at Grimsby I had already attended several years at GSS. Shortly after we met he explained how art class was where students were usually sent that the school wanted to forget, but he saw something in me and several others ,potential, to do things that wouldn't be forgotten. He decided that he would treat classes as a job for us, we would find projects at the school and around town and grade them according to my execution of the project. "I don't want to teach you, I want to show you". Over several years with his guidance we produced 3 murals at GSS (including the large one at the Gym that is now the schools official logo), a mural at Lakeview public school, a floor mural at Smith School, 2 sets for plays at the school (Les Miserables and The Hobbit), several TShirt designs, the school mascot costume and a variety of advertising graphics and logos. Mr Njegovan showed my a path as a designer vs simply an artist. Following highschool I graduated as an Architect at the University of Waterloo, become a lead video games designer for Rockstar games and am now a Program Coordinator at Sheridan College. I regret not be able to share the success I have had over the past years with him, and attribute much of it to the direction and guidance he gave me over 20 years ago. I only hope that some day I may inspire my students the same way he did me. Nick was a good man and a great teacher. He will be missed.
