Dearest Hill Gartner Family, My husband Ken (and myself) knew both your Mum and Dad thru Amway meetings at the Petis' home. What a phenomenal couple the were. Ken is now in a nursing home. I is unfortunate that we must age and then pass on thru the veil but with a strong faith, we know that we will all meet again. I will pass on your news wit love. God bless. My deepest sympathies to Ralph's Family and friends. He was indeed an loving Family man and supported the community and country throughout his life. I was fortunate enough to interview him in 2013-14 about his experiences as a Wireless (Radio) Operator with the 2nd CDN ARMD BDE in WW2. This was part of a memory project for the Hamilton Signals Association. Ralph was very generous with his time in outlining his Training and Wartime experiences. Of particular note in 2014 ( 70th Anniversary of Battle of Normandy) was his work up training to D Day and his memories of that historic Day and the following strenuous battle to liberate France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. I know that Ralph was able to travel to Juno Beach and other parts of Europe with his family as part of the 70th Anniversary Remembrance. He was also awarded the French Legion of Honour Medal for his service in liberating France during the Battle of Normandy. It was presented to him by the French Attache at the Hamilton Signals Association Dinner at Hamilton in October 2014. This was an honour for all. Thank you for your service to this country, Corporal Hillgartner. We really cannot thank you enough.

We were lucky to have Ralph as a neighbour right nextdoor to us for many years and know for a fact what a good man he was and how lucky we were to have him and his family there. He had a long and active life but never long enough .We are sure that he left his family and many people with kind thoughts of him..
