Obituary of Howard Aird
AIRD, Howard
It is with great sadness that Howard Aird, left on his final fishing trip. Departing from West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in his 74th year, he was journeying to meet his first born, little Howard. He left behind on the shore his wife of 50 years, Jackie, his other children Amber and Aaron, as well as his grandchildren Evan, Chase, Arya and Reese. Howard also leaves behind numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Howard was a retired employee of International Harvester/J.I. Case, a Winona Scout leader, a Saltfleet Go Ahead Soccer coach, an active blood donor, a volunteer income tax preparer for seniors, a participant in the District 13 RTO-ERO Heart & Stroke Ride for Life, a participant in the Cancer Survivor’s Run with his Grandson Evan, and a member of the Golden Horseshoe Outdoor Club. Our appreciation goes out to Winona Gospel Church and their youth group who help Howard maintain his treasured gardens while he was hospitalized. Special thanks to those who supported Howard in his quest to survive his illness, especially the many blood donors whose gift of life gave us many more years with him. Family and friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A private Funeral Service will be held at a future date. A Celebration of Life in Howard’s honour will be held with date TBD. In recognition of seniors like Howard who had a will to live and refused to be bullied into signing a DNR, a trust in Howard’s memory under the name “No means No” is being established. In lieu of flowers, donations to this trust to help support awareness of the issue and senior rights to live on their own terms would be appreciated by the family.
