ELLIOTT, H. Douglas
Doug's family sadly announces his passing at age 87 on Saturday, April 12, at Pine Villa Nursing Home in Stoney Creek. Doug was born in London, ON, in 1920, and moved to Brantford in 1928. He joined the RCAF and served five years, three in Newfoundland. He married Esther (Peattie) in 1940, and they came to Stoney Creek soon after, where they raised four children before Esther's death in 1974. Daughter Donna Cox (Robert) passed away in 1985.
Doug was happily married again to Dorothy Anna Elliott Metcalfe (Dory), and they've shared a full and happy life. Doug worked for 37 years as a representative of London Life Insurance Company, and on retirement sold men's clothing for five years at various local retailers. He held committee and executive positions at Stoney Creek United Church, and was active in the Stoney Creek Men's Club and Southbrook Golf Club and belonged to Wentworth Lodge, Hamilton Masonic District B.
Doug is loved and missed by his children, Margaret Connolly (Bill), Janice Williams (Paul) and Howard Elliott (Pearl) and by Dory's children Rick Metcalfe (Mary) and Wendy Metcalfe-Prince (John). He was a beloved Grandpa to Patricia and David (Connolly), Greg and Darrin (Williams), Kathleen (Cox), Jackie (Metcalfe), Erica, Kim and Carrie (Metcalfe-Prince) and Eric (Elliott) and great-Grandpa to Robert Steventon (Kathleen), Brandon and Ryan (Patricia) Roxanne (Darrin) and Cassidy (David).
Visitation will be at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Ave. Stoney Creek on Tuesday, April 15, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service honouring Doug's life will take place at Stoney Creek United Church, corner of King Street and Lake Avenue, on Wednesday, April 16, at 11 a.m., reception at the church to follow. Donations can be made to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or the charity of your choice.
