Obituary of James Anthony Sayers

SAYERS, James Anthony Born February 25, 1920 in Hamilton, Ontario With heavy hearts the James Sayers family would like to share the gentle passing of James, age 96, their father, grandfather and great grandfather on Monday, October 31, 2016. James was a 4th generation North Ender attending St. Lawrence’s Church and school throughout his youth. He served with the RCAF 427 SQ during WWII and after returning to Canada married Hilda Shutt (1923-2012) at St Patrick’s Church in 1946. James worked with Westinghouse in Hamilton while building his home in Stoney Creek close to his Parish, St Francis Xavier. With fond memories James will be missed by his loving children Lorraine Bates, Diane Sayers, Michele Futrell (Martin), Jim Sayers (Kathrine), Colleen Cillis (Kevin). James will also be missed by his 18 grandchildren: Jennifer Bates, Yvonne Tomasin (Mike), Kevin Bates (Corrie), Elaine Raby (Marc), Steven Bates (Eddy Macdonald), Sarah Bates; Chris Shanahan, Colin Shanahan (Kelly); Matthew Nash (Crystal), Nathan Nash (Marie), Danny and Zachary Nash (Hannah); James, Michael and Nicholas Sayers; Sean Cillis (Angelica), Ashley Fuca (Michael) and Katie Mitola (David) and also missed by his 12 great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Ethan and Tristan Raby, Nicholas Tomasin, Luca Bates; Autumn, Olive and Hazel Nash, Lola and Evie Nash; Gavin Cillis and Lincolin Shanahan. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care James received from all the staff at The Clarion Nursing Home. Friends and family will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Dr., Stoney Creek on Thursday, November 3, from 7-9, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Stoney Creek, 304 #8 HWY, On Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.; Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
