Obituary of May Lorain Buchanan
BUCHANAN, May Lorain (nee Hancock)
Lovingly released by her family, May peacefully went to be with the Lord, at her home in Arbour Creek Long Term Care, on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, in her 83rd year. Born in Donkin, Cape Breton Nova Scotia to James and Lily Hancock, she was predeceased by twin Florence at birth, siblings Elizabeth, Lionel, Lloyd, Raymond and dear sister Anna. May married her childhood friend, the love of her life David Buchanan and together loved and raised three children Kent (grandson Leo and family); Dale and his wife Silvana (grandson Jacob, great-granddaughter Natalie May); and Gloria. May was loved and cherished by many special nieces and nephews from the east to west coast. Throughout her life, May was known to be a loving, giving and compassionate wife, mother, aunt and friend with a contagious smile and entertaining sense of humour. May maintained a sweet and simple demeanour that won the trust and hearts of many. Her strong, positive character and perseverance through any challenge of life has been a great witness of love and faith as she dedicated her life to care for family. Always wanting to lend a hand, she was a volunteer and supporter for numerous hockey, community and church organizations. May was known for keeping busy, creating beautiful gifts of crocheting, quilting and handcrafts. In the last two years with only ten percent vision she crocheted 155 lap blankets that she donated to Juravinski Cancer Centre, Arbour Creek and as gifts to loved ones. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from family and friends, too many to mention, but May knew and cherished your love! A special thank you to Dr. Paul Andrus, Dr. Adrian Hornich and Dr. Allan Kitching for their excellent care of May and all staff of Arbour Creek Long Term Care that treated her with love, kindness and dignity! Your tribute to her is to love deeply, forgive quickly and don’t take each other for granted. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Tapleytown Cemetery. In May’s memory, donations to the Diabetes Association, Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
