Obituary of Alexander Aitken Laird
LAIRD, Alexander Aitken
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a very special father and grandfather, Alexander Aitken Laird, in his 93rd year, on March 15, 2016, with family by his side at Brantford General Hospital. Born in Carntyne, Glasgow, Scotland on October 15, 1923, Alec served in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps. during World War II before setting sail for Canada, and finally settling in Hamilton in 1949 where he met and married his beloved Dorothy, the love of his life, who sadly passed away in 1991. Alec gave 40 years of service in the Stelco steel mill, and if you asked him how he was able to do it, he would tell you that he happily did it, as he did everything, for his family, which was the most important thing to him. He leaves behind to mourn, daughter Alexis (Rick), sons Ian and Alan, and adoring grandchildren Tracy, Eric and Evan. Those who were blessed to know him will be forever touched by his thoughtfulness, generosity, compassion, unfailing wit and fun-loving spirit. He will be with us in our hearts always. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, with Visitation on Wednesday from 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 700 Chapel Hill Road at Highway 20, Smithville.
