Obituary of James Malpass M.D.C.M.
MALPASS, James M.D.C.M. 1931-2015
Jim died peacefully at home on Saturday November 14. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Leys (nee MacTavish), three children, James (Jennifer), John (Sandra) and Ann (Doug Paul) and seven grandchildren; Andrew, Ted, Lauren, Alison, Ian, Carlye and Lachlan. Jim was a founding member of the Parkdale Medical Centre. He was physician for Sears at the Centre Mall and the Proctor Manor Nursing Home. He traveled around the world studying primary health care delivery systems for the P.S.I Foundation. Jim also served as replacement physician with the Cree First Nation in Moose Factory, with the Ojibwa in Ignace and with the Inuit people in Inuvik and Aklavik. With Dr. N. Chan, Jim sponsored a Vietnamese family who are now prosperous hard working Canadians. Jim and Leys are significant donors to the National Art Gallery of Canada and the National Archives. After 35 years of Family Medicine on Parkdale Ave., Jim will be missed by his family, patients, classmates and friends in Hamilton, Port Burwell and Ellicottville. He was a kind, generous, thoughtful man who loved to cook and entertain his family and many friends with his hospitality and his unique sense of humour. At his request there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a private family service at a later date. If you wish to remember Jim please raise a glass in his memory or do any random act of kindness to a stranger or a friend. Online condolences may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca
