I found myself thinking of Duncan tonight. With everything going on in the world right now my mind strayed back to simpler times. I remember him in grade school and high school as a kind, funny, smart and well dressed young man.. He was always approachable. I don't think I ever heard him say an unkind word about anyone. i was devastated to find out that Duncan died five years ago. My family and I live far from Hamilton now so was unaware of his passing but tonight I decided to look up some of the kids I went to grew up with. I am so sorry you passed so young Duncan. My condolences to your friends and family. Wendy Maddalena (nee Hipson)

I can't tell you how sad this makes me. I only found out about Duncan's passing this weekend from an old friend. I will always remember him from Soccer and Football and driving around in his baby blue Dart. I have not seen or spoken to him in almost 25 years, but I know I will miss him.

I can still remember back to grade 8, and a few of us sneaking away from Green Acres school at lunch to head to the Paddock house, where we were greeted by Dunc... Sporting a cowboy hat, boots and a robe. Always a character!
After high school, Duncan was that guy that I would not see for a year or more sometimes, occasionally bumping into one another at the grocery store. Due to our very similar sense of humour and family connection, it was as though no time had passed.
We would have each other in stitches in mere moments. Always quick witted and easy going. That is how I will always remember my friend Duncan.

It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to a great friend. Duncan has been our neighbour and friend for many years. Not only was he a friend, he was a large supporter of Jake's hockey. Duncan and Earl Paddock have been sponsoring Jake's hockey teams since he was 7 years old. We could always count on Duncan to provide Jake with not only sponsorship money and raffle prizes but words of support and encouragement. He was one of Jake's biggest fans and supporters. Thank you so much for being there for Jake.
Forever in our hearts.

Dear Paddock Family,
We are so sorry to hear about Duncan's passing & your loss. I met Duncan in Guelph this past April & we became good friends. Gary & I & our puppy Sawyer were able to spend 2 weekends with Duncan at your family cottage & we have so many good memories of those times ; also lots of good pictures I'd be happy to share with you.
I'll always remember Duncan's wicked sense of humour, his unbelievable kindness & generosity that he showed to us & to his peers in Guelph. He spoke often of his entire extended family, had so much pride in his nieces & nephews. We were all on a journey together & will miss his presence & friendship.
Our sincere sympathies,

We, the Schurer family would like to extend our condolences to Phyllis and the Paddock family. We talked to our son Jim who played soccer with Duncan back in the mid 70's for Bill Smith and he extends his condolences as well. I bumped into Duncan at the Bank one day and he said "good afternoon Mr. Schurer" and I did not recognize him. He said "tyou don't remember me" and I did not. To a lot of those kids back then we have not changed much. We look a bit older but these kids were 11 or 12 years old and they are now in their 40's and have changed a lot.
We will keep your family in our prayers and pray for strength in the days and weeks ahead.

Words cannot express how deeply saddened I was to hear of Duncan's passing.
Friends come and go but old friendships forged in our youth stay with us forever.
Although years, miles and our paths may lead us away from each other the friendship and memories last us a life time.
So many good times and great moments we spent at school, the yard and the cottage. Learning about life, making mistakes and growing up.
We can all take comfort in knowing that one day we will share those moments and good times again.
Good bye for now old friend.

I am so saddened to hear of this deep loss. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Paddock family. Although I have not seen Duncan in some time, I have always known him to be "one in a million"...there is and was, no one like Duncan. You had to be on your toes around him with his quick wit, cleverness and dry humor - one of the funniest guys I have ever known, and always entertaining. I also remember a very sweet side of him, understanding and considerate, he was there to lend an ear if you needed to vent.
I know he will be sorely missed by anyone who knew him. He truly was one in a million.
It brings a smile to my face knowing he is in a wonderful place and that will see him again - until then Duncan, God Bless xo

Death is never easy to accept, but I know that when it is so unexpected it adds to the grief. Duncan was always a real character and I would have liked the opportunity to let him know just how highly regarded he was. Back in the day he was the only one of Jeff's friends that didn't make me feel like an annoying little sister. ;) I would always watch for him up at the cottage for a quick chance to catch up.
