We lost a great man on Nov3. I’ll never forget the first time I met Bob and the whole Penfold Clan. It was the summer of 1990 and Bob and his “parade” of machinery rolled into Lillie Kup Kamp. They all made an incredible first impression- but mostly Bob! It was like the “marines” were landing… there were trucks, trailers, boats and “Penfolds -a –plenty”. At the centre of it- Bob Penfold- Trucker extraordinaire! Lucky me that the Kup Kamp was the landing pad. There were three generations of Penfolds looking for a small piece of paradise in cottage country. Bob was the patriarch of my new “family of friends”- and he was larger than life with his big and wonderful personality. I got to spend a lot of time with Bob that summer and have tried to stay in touch ever since. I had many great visits to the Penfold household and while I don’t see them often enough- they are like family for me when I do. While I’ll miss Bob- a small part of him lives on in my garage. The 68 Galaxie he sold me in the 90’s now has an extra significance. I’ll think about him every time I look at that car- and I believe that’s how Bob would have liked it. That first image of Bob is the one I will remember most. His spirit, his family and his machines- all of them with lots of horsepower. We’ll miss you Papa Bear!
