Obituary of John Eugene William Shettick Durant
With his beloved wife Ada, of 56 years by his side, John passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 79th year. Cherished father to daughters Lydia Williams, Carrie Ann Durant (Paul Schumacher) and son Dale Durant. Beloved Papa to Chloe-Rae and Jamie-Lee Williams. John is survived by his sisters Margie (the late Harry) Beaver, Marie (the late Charlie) Hayward, Myna (the late Colin) LeBlanc of Halifax, Josephine (the late Charlie) Boyd of Abbotsford, B.C., and brother William (Paulette) Durant of Sackville, N.B. John was also a loved brother-in-law to Ada’s 15 brothers and sisters in both Hamilton and Nova Scotia and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and the U.S. John shared his love of the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping over many years with the ‘East Coast’ crowd as well as his Dofasco fishing buddies. His love for music is well known to many and could be heard singing around many campfires. He was a devoted employee at Dofasco for 26 years as a fitter-welder. The family would like to thank the staff of 8 West at HGH for the care given to John over the last three months. A special thank-you to all the friends and family, who visited, provided meals, rides, music, looked after the snow for dad for years and supported us through this journey. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Nativity, 1831 King St. E., Hamilton on Saturday at 9 a.m. Inurnment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Stoney Creek.
