Passed away at her residence in Maryland on Friday, August 22, 2014. Loving and proud mother to Sian Burgess (Allan Warren) and Kim Burgess (Robert Wilson). Cherished grandmother to Celyn, Joel, Erin, Ryan, Claire, Kyle, and Heath, and caring doctor. Beverley is predeceased by her parents Winnifred and Dr. Wilfred Clark of Stoney Creek, and is survived by her brothers Brian (Barbara) Clark and Paul Clark and their children. Beverley was an Ophthalmic Surgeon and practiced from her home on Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, for over 16 years. She also went on to practice in Hobbs, New Mexico; Delray Beach, Florida; and Amarillo, Texas. Despite receiving a full scholarship to the Julliard School of Music for her singing in her youth, Beverley opted for medical school instead. Upon graduating from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine, Beverley travelled to London, England, where she attained her diploma in Ophthalmology and Master of Surgery Degree. Also an accomplished singer, Beverley won many awards for her singing. She won the gold medal for the highest marks in Canada for The Associate of Royal Conservatory (ARCT) diploma. During medical school at U. of T., Beverley was the lead in shows for the Daffydil productions and the summers found Beverley singing with the Norman Harris Orchestra. She was eventually the National President of MENSA from 1977-79. Beverley’s life long passion was to help prevent blindness in her patients, and in her later years, Beverley was a pioneer with the use of laser for patients with macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. A Funeral Service to celebrate Beverley’s life will take place on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Stoney Creek United Church 1 King Street West, Stoney Creek at 1 p.m. Interment at Tapleytown Cemetery, Stoney Creek. Reception to follow. As a strong supporter for the prevention of blindness, donations to the CNIB in Beverley’s memory would be graciously appreciated by the family.
