Awn, the words that come to mind when we think of you are infinite. Years ago, on the other side of the world, in Afghanistan, you met a blonde girl from Angus and not only entered her life but also ours. We will miss your smile, your laugh and the stories of all the adventures you and Jakee shared over the years. Whether you were in the UK, Cuba (jumping out of an airplane), Hawaii or Amsterdam there was always an adventure.You are one of the bravest young woman I have ever met. The twinkle in your eyes and the smile on your face are forever etched in our minds. We will miss you and hold all of our memories of you close to our hearts. Love the Lapierre's

There will never be anyone quite like Awn. Where others saw despair, she saw hope. When when the night became too dark, she would still see the light. And when you felt alone she would be there. Any number of descriptive words can be used to describe her, caring, loyal, loving, positive, joyful.... The world is now a lonelier place. Anita, Tony and families. I know we have not see each other in years I have to say how very sorry I was to read about your beautiful girl. I hope you all find peace and comfort in the coming days, months and years and to some how believe that she now lives in a place that we at this moment can only imagine. No pain, no suffering. It's been seven days since Awn left us, and while it's been a week of sadness, it's equally been a week of remembering the most amazing, happy memories with our sweet friend. There is not one memory of Awn that I have that doesn't involve her beautiful smile, happy presence, and that giggle of hers that we all miss so much and will forever cherish. These treasured memories of her have helped me through this past week, just as much as her presence and friendship has helped me through life since the day I met her. Sending all our love and prayers. We are so glad that if Andrea had to leave that she is in the arms of Jesus now. All of our prayers were not in vain, she received her healing and through her battle she found victory in Jesus. Our hearts are heavy for your grief but the Holy Comforter will give you sweet relief. Though you that are left behind feel sorrow and pain she has traded all of that for perfect peace and joy. She will never leave your hearts or your minds and in time you will be reunited in the glory of God himself for all of eternity.

Dear Tony & Family: How sad I was to read of the passing of Andrea. Our deepest sympathy to the entire Matthews family. My family connection stems from my early childhood years growing up with Tony his sisters & brother. Years later Tony and us were neighbours where our children grew up. In the short while that I knew Awn, the compassion and positive energy that she demonstrated was uplifting. Awn's charm was such that those who experienced the joy of spending time with her would leave her company with a lightness and lasting memories of the sweet, funny, kind-natured girl that brightened their day. It seems so few of us are fully aware of the boundless good that we can do with simple gestures, friendly conversation and a sympathetic ear. Awn had this awareness, and imparted these things on all of us. For that I am grateful, to have known even briefly such a brilliant spirit. This is how I will memorialize my friend-- by doing my best to follow her lead and share some goodness with others.
