Obituary of James Mercer

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Pine Villa Nursing Home, Stoney Creek, in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Pembleton) for over 67 years. Predeceased by his son William James, and will be dearly missed by daughters Linda Morris and Bonnie Topic (Mark). Loving Grandfather to Sharon Bennett, Patricia Boothe, Sarah Cheney (James), Amanda Mercer, Christina, Jessica, and Michelle Topic. Also a proud Great-Grandfather to Tia and Thomas Boothe, Jamie and Aedan Bennett, and Eleanor Cheney. Jim was also a cherished Godfather to Jeffrey Pembleton (Theresa) and their children Joshua and Tianna. Survived by his sister Ina Straughn. Jim was a proud member of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, and was also a long-time employee at Robertson Building Systems for over 40 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Ambis and his staff at Pine Villa Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Jim during his stay. Friends will be received on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, from 12 p.m. until the time of Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Stoney Creek.
