Dear Ron & Family: It is difficult to know where to start. Mary was a very special person. I had the pleasure of working closely with Mary when she was the Canadian HARD of HEARING Association (CHHA-Hamilton Branch) president. She was a friend and mentor. Mary continued her advocating of hearing loss and CHHA right up until the end. She explained to the various nurses and technicians she came in contact with, how important it was to speak clearly and directly to her (and others) with hearing loss. It didn't matter where she was, be it at the theatre, church or shopping . . . Mary was always the consummate advocate for CHHA. Mary was recently voted the Joan Miller Award of Merit which goes to a long standing CHHA-Hamilton member who has contributed outstanding service to the work of the association and the Hamilton Branch. Sadly, there was not an opportunity to present this award to her in person, but she was aware of it . . . and I believe very pleased and honoured to receive it. Mary was a great lady. Her friendship and words of wisdom will be missed. May she rest in peace.
