Obituary of Shirley Gwendolyn Murphy

On Sunday, May 18, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family after a long and courageous fight with COPD, Shirley passed away in the Hamilton General Hospital. Beloved mother of Dallas and her husband Larry Smith, Ken Gies and his wife Bonnie, Graham Gies and his wife Jennifer, Allan Gies and his wife Cheryl, Kathleen Scott, Maggie Vaughan and her husband Phil, Linda Miszczak and Wally Liberty, Cindy Murphy and her husband Maurice Renaud, Wendy Murphy and John Greig (Red), Trish Cochrane and Dave Houston and Shawn Murphy and his wife Becky. Lovingly remembered by 25 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Isabel Wynn. Predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend Ray Murphy, parents Fred and Marion Fife, brother Bruce Fife and sister Maryellen Hancock. Shirley was a member of Tapleytown United Church and a former RNA and Ward Clerk at the Henderson Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on May 22, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on May 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. At Shirley’s request, in lieu of flowers (they make her sneeze!), teddy bears for children that don’t have one will be gratefully accepted, donations Juravinski Cancer Centre, Tapleytown U.C.W., Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health or a Charity of your choice would be appreciated.
