To the Cosgrove family: I am truly sorry for your loss, and regret that I cannot be there in person today. I was first met Rob in Borden in 1986, in a hot classroom in Croil Hall, and both he and our training have left lasting impressions on me over the years since. Our paths crossed many times since then, and I enjoyed the time we spent at the various collector shows & auctions, matches, the odd round of sporting clays, or just sitting around over a pint & getting caught up or talking about just about anything from reloading to Star Trek trivia. We stayed in contact when I moved into the civilian world, and was looking forward to seeing more of him after his retirement. I will always remember him for his very easygoing gentle nature, the passion and detailed knowledge he brought to a wide variety of his interests, and his eager willingness to help whenever and wherever possible. His passing is a loss to all who knew him. Arte Et Marte, my friend.

First of all I'd like to convey my deepest heart felt condolances to the Cosgrove family . I met Rob at the Burlington Target club at least 25 years ago and Rob was the kind of guy that if you had a problem with something you could always count on him to give you a hand or his opinion . I remember several road trips I went on with Rob and you could always count on his wit and humour to make your day . may you rest in peace my friend .

We were co-workers and military historical enthusiasts in Borden. This came to me as a huge surprise for a younger man with so much to offer. We shared many laughs and given each other support during our instructional days, often during demanding timelines. We conducted many parades with veterans, he was ready to participate always in proper form, proper historical format. We share many great times. I will miss him dearly. The RCEME, Weapons Tech and military collector's worlds have lost a great friend. My deepest condolences to the family, he will be sadly missed. ARTE ET MARTE brother.

Rob joined the Canadian Army Reserve (Militia) at 23 (Hamilton) Service Battalion as a Weapon’s Technician (Land) in Maintenence Company of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Branch on 16 Jan 1986. He progressed through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Sgt on 1 Nov 1993. He was extensively employed in training of both Recruits, Apprentices, Journeymen ans Trade Specialist Supervisors over the years. Rob had many employments at Borden, Meaford, Petawawa, Chilliwack, and Gagetown in positions of increasing importance and responsibility. He was awarded his First Clasp for his Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) on 16 Jan 2008 and retired from the Canadian Forces on 19 Apr 2013 with 25 years of accumulated pensionable service. Rob was able to meld his love for history and culture with his passion for his chosen profession over the years and enjoyed a number of hobbies and activities including World War 2 Re-enacting, Black Powder and Cowboy style pistol range shooting, and not to forget his love of Star Trek conventions. A proud highpoint was his participation in the European battlefield tours. His RCEME Period Dress participation in numerous commemorative events and acts of remembrance made him a recognizable and welcome feature within the Simcoe County veteran's community. He really opened up when talking to the older veterans after our events, taking special care of those former RCEME veterans residing in rertirement homes. Words to the Last Post: Come home! Come home! The Last Post is sounding for you to hear. All good soldiers know very well there is nothing to fear, While they do what is right, and forget All the worries they have met, In their duties through the year. A soldier cannot always be great. But he can be a gentleman, And he can be a right good friend, To his comrades in his squad. So all you soldiers listen to this – Deal fair by all and you’ll not be amiss. Be Brave! Be Just! Be Honest and True - Men! Rob was a quiet, well read, gentle giant and a loyal friend and brother-in-arms and will be sadly and genuinely missed. Arte et Marte!
