Obituary of Mary Larson

LARSON (LASHYN), Mary (nee Lucek) Peacefully, on September 8, 2010 at the General Hospital, Hamilton Ontario, at the age of 98. Devoted wife of the late Michael. Much loved Mother of Sophie Leskevich and her late husband Nick. Dearest Baba of William Leskevich and his partner Joseph Nalepka. Sister of John and his wife Mary, Katie and Eva all of Manitoba and the late Peter, Sophie, Mike, and Anne. Daughter of the late Jesse and Alexander Lucek. Mary was born and raised in Tyndall Manitoba where she spent countless hours singing in the church choir and playing baseball in the farm league. She farmed until moving to Hamilton, Ontario in the early sixties to become a long time cook at the Bar 20 Restaurant, famous for her perogi Fridays and coconut cream pies. For nearly two decades Mary was an expert bowler in the Stelco Mixed Five Pin bowling league at the Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes in Stoney Creek and an avid gardener who also crafted hundreds of fine pieces of needlework and flowers over the years for the Church and her family. Devoted to prayer, her rosary was never out of reach. Her big bright smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Tammy Cassidy and Penny Le Febour for their constant concern and help over the years. We would also like to thank Shawna Lee Emerson of ParaMed, Betty Miller of the VON, and the nursing team at the Hamilton General Hospital Stroke wing, for their dedication to keeping Mary’s final years and days with us full of the care and dignity she deserved. Arrangements entrusted to the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home in Stoney Creek. As per Mary’s request a private family graveside service has taken place. Donations to the Alzheimer’s, Stroke, or Hospice charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
