Obituary of Geoffrey F. Carter
CARTER, Geoffrey F. - Peacefully at Arbour Creek Long Term Care Centre in Stoney Creek on Friday, November 9, 2007, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Janet (January 2004). Loving father of Ian (Joan), Brian (Carol), Geoffrey Jr. (Janice), Jennifer (Brian Bowerman), Maurice (Margaret), Judy (Frank McLellan), Gillian (Guy Dixon) and Colin (Laurie). Cherished grandfather to Scott, Julie (David McKay), Carolyn (Jason Black), Chris (Leigh), David, Janelle (Sly Caucci), Susie, Matthew (Alisha), Tom (Natasha), Hilary, Nigel, Colman and Rachael. Cherished great-grandfather to Joshua, Tyler, Brandon and Caitlin. Geoffrey was born the only child to Mona Maude Carter on August 4, 1918 in Northern Ireland. His early adult life involved pursuit of education, cricket, field hockey and managing a tea plantation in Ceylon for 10 years, met wife (nurse) Janet during a hospital stay in N.I. Married in 1946. Immigrated to Canada with a family of six children in 1956, settling in Stoney Creek, adding two more children in the early sixties. Employed with Hanson Supply, Contractor Machinery and Big 0. Upon retirement in 1980, Geoff and Janet enjoyed many years with their burgeoning family. Many thanks to the 4th floor staff at Arbour Creek, his caregiver, Paul Thrower for his loving care during his later years, and their Gray Rd. and Burwell Ave. neighbours. The family will receive friends at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Ave Dr., Stoney Creek, on Monday, November 12, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. A Celebration of Geoff's Life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Church of Our Saviour the Redeemer. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Mum and Dad are together again!
