Obituary of Peter Yakiwchuk

YAKIWCHUK, Peter Peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Pete was born February 21, 1946, the son of Walter and Sophie. In 1965, Pete joined Dofasco and had a very accomplished career. His first job was as a Safety Analyst. At 20, he started studying for his CMA degree. He won a scholarship in his third year for achieving 91% placing first in a class of well over 50. In 1970, he became an accountant and steadily moved up the ranks, first as supervisor, then manager and eventually as Comptroller - Corporate Accounting in 1992. He retired in 1994. He loved his family, his friends, his home, golf, travelling, books, and the stock market. Pete was the loving husband and best friend of Billie (Gulliver) and father to son Tom (Kelly) - his pride and joy. Left to mourn but rejoice in his life are his wonderful mother Sophie, his brother and buddy Rob (Debbie), his loved sister-in-law Arlene and grandchildren Taylor and Matthew - Grampy's "munchkins" whom he adored and who brought such joy to his life. Also survived by many nieces and nephews whose love and respect for their gentle and wise uncle will always be remembered. Predeceased by his father Walter, sisters Della and Pat, brothers Victor and David, mother and father-in-law Pauline and Tom Gulliver and brother-in-law Bil. Thank you to the CCAC, Bayshore Nursing, Dofasco (GWL) and Dr. Chris Ambis for making it possible for Pete to be at home. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Ave. Dr., Stoney Creek, on Wednesday, May 14th from 6-9 p.m. The Funeral will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to The Weekend To End Breast Cancer (forms available at the Funeral Home) would be appreciated by Pete's family.
