Picture this, Ken, a friend for many years buys me a ticket to New York. My first response was...is Mike going to meet us there? Ken said he couldn't make it, which I found strange knowing Mike's love of the city. We arrived in New York, dropped our bags, went to a bar where to my surprise, Mike and Ray were waiting. I was happy as could be, all of us together in NYC. It didn't take long, probably moments, that I felt like I'd know Ray forever. He made it easy, we laughed, joked--our favourite moments were to tease Mike. It warmed my heart that Mike had found someone to make him happy. Ray had an infectious personality and he will be missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes to his family and friends and to my good friend Mike.
Love Salvatore

To those who don't know me, myself and Salvatore are the Vancouver contingent of Mike's extended family---brothers,[OK Mike, older brothers], heartfelt friends, partners in crime and biggest fans.
I remember first meeting Ray in New York City; we'd travelled there to celebrate Salvatore's birthday. Arriving at our meeting place, it was as if Ray lit up the room when he turned towards us. I can honestly say that I have never been so warmly greeted by a stranger, it was as if any friend of Mike's was instantly his as well, and I immediately felt at ease. I quickly learned that this open spirit and disarming warmth were simply an honest expression of his true essence.
Celebrating Mike's birthday in San Francisco last year, Ray found an opportunity to take Salvatore and myself aside for a heart-to-heart. With remarkable candour, he spoke about his love for Mike and his desire to be with him and treat him in the way he deserved and I was struck by his courage and honesty. In the all-too-short time I knew him, Ray was sly and gregarious, witty and fun-loving, sweet and utterly charming, and I loved seeing Mike being loved by someone so loving.
It is with incredible regret that I can't be with you all to say goodbye. When I think of my sadness at the loss of his sun-saturated presence, I can barely stand to think of the pain of those who've known him so much longer. To all of his loved ones and especially to my dearest Mike, please know that I will be connected to you by heart this Friday, and I send a loving embrace at this sad time. You all definitely have one more guardian angel in heaven.

Our condolences to the family for your loss, and what a loss. I grieve with tears for the loss of such a one.
For the brief few years that we were in contact with Ray. His ever smiling face was always there to welcome you. Regardless of your mood, whenever you came into his presence his smile would bring a smile to your face.
Ray you are in a safe place now, with no pain or sorrow. However, the sorrow left behind will last a long long time. Just smile down on your loved ones and friends and I know that they will feel your love, think of you, remember the good times, and "SMILE".

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Ray, and with your family and friends. I only met you once, but that was enough to know you were a warm, kind and funny soul. Most of all, I could see how you made my dear, dear friend very happy and that is what endeared you to me most.
May you rest in peace in the next life, surrounded by the love you had here in this one.

My dearest Ray,
I'll never forget the first time I saw you. I was standing in front of the emergency dept of St. Joe's hospital with my son Mike and I looked where he was looking because his face had suddenly lit up like the night sky. I wanted to see what caused such a glow to come upon his face and he said "here's Ray"! When I turned to look at you your beautiful smile melted my heart and somehow I knew that very instant that I was going to like you. I just didn't know how much.
The love I feel for you is the love I feel for my children and grandchildren. You belonged in my heart from the moment I met you.
I want to tell the world about you, how beautiful and sweet and loving you were. How you came to stay with me each time Larry was taken to the hospital, how you came to see me every day when I was in hospital, how you cooked enough meals for Larry and I for a week when you found out that Larry was so ill, how you were there whenever I needed you and I didn't even have to ask you to be.
I'll never forget how you called me "sweetie" and gave me the warmest hugs. You are part of my family, part of my heart and you will be forever and ever.
Thank you for making my son so happy, for loving him as he loved you. Please don't worry about him...we, his family, your family, dear dear friends and sooo many more are covering him with a blanket of love and support.
We will miss you more than words can possibly say but you will live in our hearts forever.
I love you my Ray Ray <3

Dear sweet brother of my heart, you have been a big part of my life from the day I met you and my love for you was instant. Your warm smile always brightened my day. Your generosity, thoughtfulness and sincerity were overwhelming. I'm so very thankful that you came into our family. You enriched all of our lives and we'll never be the same. I miss you so my dollyface. You are in my heart every day. I will cherish my memories of you forever. I will miss your hilarious banter with my Mikey, your award winning home cooking, the way you'd use words out of context, when you'd make fun of me and my drama, your funny stories, your loving advice about boys, going to the show and sitting in the middle, your tight hugs, your laugh, your sarcasm and wit. But most of all your good good heart and I love you with all of mine. Rest now from all your pain my dolly. Always, Lor xo

Ray,
There are a few special people in this world that shine like a Star. You were one of them.
A Star so bright, that it shone on every one you touched.
Your arms were always open. You embraced everyone with your warm smile and your great sense of humour.
Your Star now shines brightly upon your family, friends and loved ones and you will be missed tremendously by
those that knew you.
A special man with a gracious heart. May you find peace, my dear friend.
You are and always will be, very much loved.

Ray, what an appropriate name. Ray really was a ray of sunshine. He always greeted you with a bright eyed smile, a big hug and a kiss. Ray truly was a good friend to many many people. He was always a great conversationalist and filled us all with laughter. When my best friend passed away I wrote a poem which I would like to offer up in memory of Ray:
Good-Bye Old Friend
As the time grows nigh
it's hard to say good-bye old friend.
As the ebb of life ends with the swan's song
and the grim reaper takes you away from me
a part of me dies too.
If I could but defer your bills of mortality
so you could stay with me
for even just a day or two.
Yet my hapless cry to the moon
does not pierce the deaf ear of the piper
hence with heavy hearts
we must say our sad farewell
and as you close your eyes
to take passage on the King's Highway
I will hold your hand
and keep our memories alive.
We all have numerous memories of Ray and by talking about them we will keep Ray alive in our hearts and in our thoughts.
Ray I will miss you dearly.
Ciao buddy until we meet again.
