Obituary of John Tkach

TKACH, John It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Tkach. After a brief illness, John passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2012 at the age of 82. John’s memory lives on with his wife Sonia, his children and grandchildren: Greg (Stephanie) and daughter Maddie; Tanya (Paul) and daughters Julia & Christina; Michael (Carlyn) and sons Matthew and Jonathan. John retired from Canada Post after 35 years of service. He often spoke of the good times and great friends at his work. John was born in Hamilton and lived in Hamilton his entire life; he was proud of his hometown and maintained many lifelong friends from the old neighbourhood. Devoted to his faith, John was an active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was extremely proud of his heritage and regularly attended and supported many functions and activities within the Ukrainian community. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by his family and friends… he will be dearly missed for his engaging stories and clever wit. John’s family would like to thank Dr. Paula Shott for her outstanding care and compassion. Many thanks also to the dedicated staff from the community palliative care team. Family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Panachyda at 8 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 260 Melvin Avenue in Hamilton on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10 am.
