Obituary of James Arthur Thorpe
THORPE, James Arthur
Sadly, our husband and father passed away on January 16th, 2013. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene (Ellison) and was a wonderful father to their two children, Betty Anne and Terry (Pamela). Jim adored his grandchildren and their families, Kevin (Tiffany, Kaleb) of Barrie, Lindsay (Kim, Finnegan) of Vancouver, Ashley (Dave, Belle, Lyla) and Hilary of Burlington. Jim is also survived by his brother Nicholas (Della) and nieces and nephews. Jim was a 43 year employee of Dofasco, where he first took up the sport of Curling. After many years as a member of the Dofasco Curling Club, he joined Glendale Golf and Country Club where he continued his love of the “hurry hard” sport for many years and within the past year. His other passion was his cottage where he could not wait to don his work clothes and commence the never ending list of jobs that he seemed to create with his favourite helper, Buddy, at his side. A special thanks to the nurses on the 7th and 8th floors of the Tower of St Joseph’s Healthcare and to Drs’ Woods and Khalid and special nurse Kathleen for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Stoney Creek United Church (King St. W. and Lake Ave.) on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. In memory of Jim and in lieu of flowers, the family would be appreciative of donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
