Obituary of David Earl Smith

SMITH, David Earl It is with great sadness that we share the passing of David on July 3, 2008, at home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 60, following a courageous battle with cancer. David will be sadly missed and forever remembered by Mary, his best friend and wife of 38 years. David was the much loved father of Kerri (Alex) Stanford and Jarrett Smith. He was the beloved "Papa" to Finleigh, whom he loved so dearly. David will also be greatly missed by his father Owen Smith (Doreen) and his brothers and sisters Bette Anne (Barry) Baago, Sandi (Bill) Kennedy, Owen T. Smith, Robert (Sharon) Smith. He was predeceased by his mother Audrey and brother Paul Jay. Left with fond and loving memories are his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and Mary's family, the Yamniuks. David was the long-time former owner and president of Milmine Insurance in Stoney Creek and Kernahan and Barlow Insurance in St. Catharines. He will be missed by his many dedicated co-workers and loyal clients. He was also an enthusiastic skiier and fisherman who loved nature and spending time at his family cottage on Otter Lake. David will be fondly remembered for his quiet and humble demeanour, his kindness and his sense of humour. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wm. Kennedy, Sandi Kennedy, Dr. D. Robinson, Dr. S. Williams, Dr. P. Ellis, Dr. B. Strang, Dr. M. Slaven and the nurses and other staff of the Juravinski Cancer Centre who cared for David with kindness and compassion during his illness. Friends will be received at the DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Cremation to follow. A Celebration of David's life will be held at Chandelier Place, 660 Barton St. Stoney Creek on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 12:00 Noon.
