Obituary of Vernon (Vern) Russell Gordon Berry

BERRY, Vernon Russell Gordon Peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in his 90th year, Vern became our special angel in heaven. Beloved wife of Marjorie for 63 years. Dad to Judy (Peter) Wood, Dundas; Doug (Janet) Ridgeway. Grandpa to Tara (Rungsun) Intarapanya, Darwin Australia; Bryan Wood, Dundas; Chris, Sayward and Heather. Special great grandpa to Oscar and Joey in Darwin. Brother to Norma Adams and Roy Berry, Hamilton; Jack of Niagara Falls and Frank in Sarnia. Predeceased by Joyce and Lorne. Vern was a founding member and manager of Firestone Credit Union. He enjoyed bowling, yearly trips to Florida, keeping his lawn and car in A-1 shape. He delighted playing and found great joy being with his grandchildren-teaching Tara in a safe spot on his driveway to ride a bike; playing catch and watching Bryan play baseball. Great-grandson Oscar,who brought his great-grandpa immense joy, was his best kazoo playing, ant and stone picking buddy with whom he shared many special times. Grandpa would have been the same for Joey. Thanks to St. Joe’s Palliative Care Unit – Dr. Woods and staff for making Vern’s and the family’s last few days as peaceful as possible. Visitation will take place at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Service to take place Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, with visiting a half-hour prior.
