Obituary of E. Gordon Osmond

OSMOND, E. Gordon Born March 19, 1923 in Gambo, Bonavista Bay Newfoundland, Gordon lost his last battle, at Brierwood Gardens in Brantford, on October 8, 2010. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Boyko) for 68 years. Loving father of Gord (Bonnie) and Marilyn (Brian Etherington). Proud grandfather of Darrell, Teri, Craig, Laura and Kevan. Survived by his sisters Win Elliott and Grace Parker and sisters- in -law Kay Barrett and Alice Boyko. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Fred, Ing and Jack and sisters Caroline, Marie and Madge. Gord was married in Hamilton in 1942 and then served overseas for three years during WWII as a tank driver with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers, landing on the beaches of Normandy in 1944. This began a lifetime of service that continued with the Hamilton Police Force, as Detective, Police Chief for Saltfleet Township and as an Advisor with The Ontario Police Commission. Gord served as inaugural President of the Stoney Creek Battlefield Royal Canadian Legion. He proudly marched every Remembrance Day with the Hamilton Police War Veterans Association and enjoyed the monthly meetings in Toronto with his fellow Sherbrookes. Gord was a man of many talents…………..electrician, carpenter, mechanic, pilot, golfer, storyteller and debater. He was an avid Blue Jay and Ticat Fan. Finally, he left a legacy of shared time and stories with his beloved grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. Legion Honours, followed by the Funeral Service to be held on Thursday, October 14th at 1 p.m. Inurnment to follow in Mountview Gardens.
