Peacefully at Emmanuel House on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of Bernice (Matys) for 55 years. Loving father of Patricia and her husband Michael Mullrooney and Richard and his partner Donna Koshiba. Dear grandfather of Kathleen and Matthew. Bill will be deeply missed by his brother Adrienne and sisters Rosemary, Ave Marie (Jim) and Helen (Richard). He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Bill was a gentle, kind and generous person who handled life’s joys and challenges with quiet dignity and grace. He was an elementary school teacher and principal in Wentworth County for 40 years. An active volunteer in the community for over 20 years, he shared his time with Mission Services and the Friends of Battlefield House and served as President of the Stoney Creek Historical Society. Special thanks to Dr. Damji, the doctors and nurses of Juravinksi Cancer Centre, the CCAC palliative team and the people of Emmanuel House for their kindness, care and compassion. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek (due to road construction please take Second St. north from King St. and turn right at Charles St.) on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers Tuesday at 3 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment Mountview Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Stoney Creek Historical Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
