Obituary of Jovan Narancic

NARANCIC, Jovan Peacefully passed away on June 17, 2009, at the age of 82, our father, grandfather, husband, brother, friend and eternal beloved. Deda Jovo was born in Doljane, Lika, Yugoslavia to mother Mirka and father Dusan. As a tall, handsome boy he fought in the Royal Yugoslav Army against Nazi forces, and became a teenage refugee in 1945. First living in Italy, then England, Deda Jovo moved to Windsor, Canada with his sister Desanka in 1952, and eventually moved to Hamilton in 1961, where he worked at Stelco for 30 years. He is survived by his loving wife Milka (nee Trbovic) of 46 years, and by 3 sons, Predrag, Milan and Simo, and his beloved grandchildren, Stephen, Diana, Daniela, Aleksandar and Nikola. He is also survived by sister Desanka, and nieces, nephews, kumovi and other family in Serbia, United States, England and Canada. Deda Jovo was a founding member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral on Nash Road in Hamilton, and life-long defender of his faith, family and people – who instilled by his examples of courage and strength, the same love in his sons. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Jovan Narancic to the Fund for the Restoration of Gomirje Monastery in the Diocese of Upper Karlovac c/o Srpske Pravoslavne Crkvene Opstine u Karlovcu, Karlovacke Banke, 7030-1584545. Alternatively, donations in his memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Visitation will be held at the DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Lake Avenue Drive in Stoney Creek on Thursday, June 18 at 2-4 p.m., and again 7-9 p.m., with pomen memorial service at 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 18. Opelo funeral service will be served at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009 at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 153 Nash Road South, with Fr. Lazar Vukojev and Fr. Stevo Stojsavljevic officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Neka mu je vjecna slava i hvala! Vjecnaja pamjat!
