Obituary of Gladys Mary Matthews

MATTHEWS, Gladys Mary Peacefully at the Juravinski Hospital on March 26, 2012 at the age of 81, after a courageous battle typical of her indomitable will and unwavering faith in the mercy of God. Predeceased by her beloved husband John Joseph (Jack) Matthews in 2005 she leaves behind her son Robert (Debra) and daughter Sally Ross (Dave) as well as her loving grandchildren Tara, Michael, Holly, and Rob of whom she was immensely proud. She had a sterling career as a R.N. in England prior to coming to Canada in 1968 and she will be missed by many family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Thanks to the staff at the Juravinski Hospital for their care and attention during her final days, it is greatly appreciated. The family will receive friends at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday, March 29th from 6-8 p.m. Vigil Service Thursday 7:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Winona, on Friday March 30, 2012 at 10 a.m. followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers and in recognition of both her and Dad’s deep and abiding love of animals please consider a donation to the Hamilton SPCA and think about adopting an animal who like all of us are deserving of a good home filled with affection and kindness, qualities that she embodied throughout her life.
