Obituary of Paul Allan Bastable

BASTABLE, Paul Allan Beloved husband and best friend of Shirleyann (nee Taylor) for 41 years, father to Nadine Cooper (Debb), Scott Miles (Karen) and Carolyn Laidman (Todd) passed away peacefully in his 80th year on Sunday, April 21, 2013, surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved. Paul was a proud and loving grandfather to Hayley Laidman, Serena, Breslin and Nevin Miles and always considered them to be his pride and joy. Paul also loved and cherished his extended family of Deborah Hogg, Meghann Van Dyk, Lindsay Van Dyk, Julia Van Dyk and young Jakob. Paul’s good nature, limitless love of life and his wonderful sense of humour touched so many lives during his seventy-nine years. He will be sadly missed by the entire Taylor family, who showed their devotion to Paul by providing him twenty-four hour care during his last days at the Juravinski Cancer Centre. He will also be missed by the many friends he met throughout his life. Paul’s family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to the dedicated and compassionate staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre as well as Archdeacon John Rathbone, who married Paul and Shirleyann 41 years ago and whose heartfelt blessings sent Paul on his great journey home to heaven. The family and friends of Paul are honoured to have known such an amazing man. A celebration of life will be held at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers Paul’s family would appreciate a donation to Ronald McDonald House which was his favourite Charity. “Don’t think of him as gone away– his journey’s just begun, life holds so many facets– this earth is only one.
