Obituary of Jessica Beth Powell

January 4, 1993 - January 24, 2024

Passed away peacefully, At May Court Hospice, Ottawa, surrounded by her loving family on January 24th, 2024, in her 31st year. 

The beloved daughter of Patrick and Kathy Powell, and little sister of Alicia (Kurtis), Jessica was a Binbrook girl, born and raised.

Jessica fought a brief but brave battle with cancer and is now pain free. True to her character, Jessica showed exceptional courage, strength and grace over the course of her illness.

Our family sincerely thanks Jessica’s exceptional home care nurses from Bayshore Health, the compassionate nursing and palliative care teams at the Ottawa Hospital, and the dedicated staff and volunteers of May Court Hospice. 

Jessica will be remembered as an adventurous spirit, with a love for travel and a passion for life. She was known for her caring and generous nature, always there for her friends to offer advice and support. 

Jessica was a Senior Policy Analyst with Nutrition International, where she was a highly respected and valuable member of her team and trusted by the international governments and agencies her work supported.  

Jessica loved animals; she had several sweet pets over the years and was a cat-sitter for many furry friends in Ottawa. She was dedicated to conservation, sustainability and environmental action, practicing veganism and the 4 R’s (refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle). She loved the outdoors and spending time at her lakeside cottage in Loring, ON. 

Jess will be forever loved and missed by her family, her many dear friends, her colleagues and neighbours. 

Jessica’s exceptional life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the Centre for Conservation at Ball’s Falls Conservation Area, 3292 Sixth Avenue, Lincoln, ON. All are welcome.
