Obituary of Pieter Tjeerd VanderWerf

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Pieter at Juravinski Hospital on Saturday, December 30, 2023, in his 87th year. A loving and devoted Husband, Father, Opa, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Pieter has been reunited with the love of his life, his wife Helena, their son Richard, his father Jochem and mother Veronica, his brothers Piet, Jopie, sisters Meinie, Vronie, brothers-in-law Gerard (VanWanRooy) Nico (Maagdenberg), Noud (VanWanRooy), sister-in-law Lies from Canada and countless family and friends throughout Canada and Holland. Pieter will be sadly missed by his loving children John (Ana-Mae), Andrew (Marie), Lisa (Ken) Bohnert, Veronica (Steve) Shea, cherished grandchildren Danielle, Colleen (Cody) St. Godard, Amanda (Cody), Emma (Brendan), Evan, Pieter, Kyle and great-grandson Theodore, his sister Margaret and sister-in-law Aggie, nieces, nephews and friends from the Hamilton Seniors Bridge Club, the St. Elizabeth’s Village community and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, St. Francis Xavier, Stelco, neighbours and the numerous other activities he enjoyed throughout his life.

The family would like to thank the staff at the CICU at Juravinski Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

Family and Friends are welcome for a final goodbye on Friday, January 5 from 12 – 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at St. Elizabeth’s Village, 384 Rymal Rd. W. located at the end of St. Elizabeth Way, outside of the gates off Garth. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Church following Visitation. Cremation and family burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Liver Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
