Obituary of Leslie Harris

HARRIS, Leslie Peacefully and with dignity at Pine Villa Nursing Home, Stoney Creek, with his family by his side on Friday, June 14, 2013 in his 90th year. Beloved husband of 64 years to the late June (Mather). Cherished father of Peter and Carol and her husband Wayne Baxter. Devoted grandfather of Kelly Carpenter, Jennifer Baxter and great-grandfather of Willie and Ashley Carpenter. Dear brother of Wally Harris and his wife Dorothy and brother-in-law of Sheila and her husband Peter Lalonde, Brian Mather and Barbara Anderson of Florida. Will be missed by his nieces and nephews. Leslie served in the Navy on a mine sweeper in Halifax. He worked for 42 years with Dominion Engineering Works in Lachine, Quebec and spent 25 wonderful years living in Chateauguay, Quebec. He was actively involved as a coach with the midget hockey and baseball teams. He never missed helping out with the Homeowners Assoc., especially the corn roast. He was a lifetime member of the legion and was a Mason. Music was a passion. A tenor voice had him singing in church musicals and the barber shoppers. Although only a short stay of 2 months at Pine Villa Nursing Home, they were the happiest 2 months of his recent life. Heartfelt thanks from the family to all of the staff who were so devoted in his care. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Monday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. The “Original Five” is now Three.
