Obituary of Audrey May McKinnell

Peacefully at the McNally House Hospice, Grimsby, Ontario, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, Audrey May McKinnell (Lloyd) in her 90th year. Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband William Earl McKinnell (2002). Survived by sons David (Gail) of Smithville and Richard of Toronto. Also survived by grandchildren Ryan McKinnell of Ottawa and Whitney Vandenberg (Jared) of Smithville and sister-in-law Ruby Mitchell. Audrey was also predeceased by sisters Dorothy England and Beverley Hamilton. Audrey was the daughter of the late Frederick and May Lloyd. She had fond memories of growing up in Hamilton, Lloyd’s Bakery and her time working at National Trust. Following her marriage to Earl in 1948, Audrey moved to the McKinnell family farm in Smithville where life revolved around Maplelawn Holsteins and the Fulton community. Audrey also found time to work in the office at Lyle MacDougall and Sons Garage and Allis-Chambers dealership for over 20 years. Naturally inquisitive, informed and an avid reader, Audrey maintained her interest in community and current events throughout her life. Mother was very appreciative of the support of her friends, neighbours and the myriad of health care and home care workers that enabled her to remain in her home in recent years. Focused, determined and highly independent, she remained in control of her surroundings and care despite her numerous health challenges. Special thanks to Dr. Tom Suhadolc, the nurses of the West Niagara Palliative Care team of the Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand, Brant CCAC, and most recently the outstanding nurses, staff and volunteers of McNally House for their compassionate and professional care. In accordance with Mother’s specific wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service for the immediate family has been held, with burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. For those wishing to do so, memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice or McNally House Hospice in Grimsby. Arrangements entrusted to Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, Ontario. (905-662-2948) Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
